During this whole experience of going through diagnosis, biopsy, mastectomy, and waiting for results, I have found music to be really helpful. What's on your playlist (or what helped you in thick of things)? I realize this will be different for everyone. Here's mine:

Brave by Sara Bareilles

Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Stand by You by Rachel Platten

Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield

Good Life by One Republic

Also I listen to various Buddhist chants.

    Hi Axolotl,

Thank you so much for starting this thread. I too have found music to be very helpful in my healing process. I find that music has helped me bring out a lot of the tears that I needed to release, but also provide me with an escape so I don't have to feel anything at all if I don't want to.

My play list includes some of the songs you mentioned.

    Fight Song by Rachel Platten

Sanctuary by Lennon Stella, Maisy Stella and Charles Esten (Nashville TV show season 5 sound track)

How can I help you say goodbye by Patty Loveless

I hope you Dance by Lee Ann Womack

Not ready to make nice by the Dixie Chicks

A collection of Piano Melodies the CD is called "Lavender Skies" by Gary Lamb

I look forward to reading/listening to other music that our BC sisters found that helped them through this journey.

    Hugs and Love,

    Sara

When I want to distract my mind (during painful or long tests, when my mind starts to worry obsessively while I'm trying to fall asleep), I go word for word through musicals. Hamilton is my favorite. If I'm thinking about what lyrics come next I can focus on that entirely. It feels like a kind of meditation.

Plus if I'm ever asked to fill in on Broadway I'll be ready. 😉

TA song that really spoke to me when I got my diagnosis was Tom Petty's " I Won't Back Down". I felt compelled to work on a cover of it with my kids and sang on it even though I had never sang before.

sswp....I love that!! How do you get your teenagers to sing with you? Mine are MORTIFIED when I sing or God forbid rap.

Herculesmulligan: thanks, my daughter isn't really your typical teenager I guess. My son, the drummer in the video, is autistic. He regularly performs with my daughter and her friend as a band. Occasionally he exhibits behaviors at gigs that have embarrassed her, so she's sort of immune to any embarrassment she may feel singing with me lol.

I just discovered this thread & am enjoying listening to some of the music mentioned here. My own personal favorite during the tougher days was Andra Day's Rise Up - it never fails to inspire me!

I thought I would give this thread a bump and see if anyone else could share some of their favorite music that has helped them through their BC journey. I have found listening to all of your recommendations to be very therapeutic.

Thank you all for sharing and Axolotl, thank you again for starting this thread it has helped me in so many different ways.

    Hugs to all,

    Sara
