Abnormal MRI @ 2 Years Post Treatment
In September 2015, at age 37, I was diagnosed with Stage IIB triple positive IDC and was successfully treated with chemo (pCR), lumpectomy+sentinel node biopsy, and radiation ending in May 2016. Since that time, I have been on Aromasin and Lupron, and am being followed every 6 months with alternating mammo and MRI. Although I had such a great response to treatment, considering my mother also had breast cancer (at age 47), doctors feel I'm at a higher risk and the MRI is warranted.
This week, I had the usual MRI, but now am showing some sort of 1.4cm non-mass enhancement in the same quadrant as the original tumor. The doctor didn't have much more info yet about the exact location. She's ordered a biopsy. When I spoke with her, she mentioned this could be DCIS and asked who I'd prefer to have for a surgeon....which of course, makes me very anxious as I am reading into what she must be thinking/assuming about the results!
My question now is, since doctors have told me a recurrence is very rare in my particular disease, are there other reasons for a non-mass enhancement?

I am not sure of other reasons for non mass enhancement; only a biopsy will be able to determine that. Hopefully they can get you in soon because I know the wait is excruciating. A recurrence happening in the way mine did was exceedingly rare, yet did happen; unfortunately, someone always has to be the one to fall on the wrong side of the statistics. I am very glad they are being aggressive in pursuing a biopsy so that you will have definitive answers. Sorry you have to go through this. Hoping the boipsy is benign. Please keep us posted.

Hi
My MRI showed a focal region of non-mass enhancement I my good breast. I just did a mammogram .and ultrasound today. They didn't show anything. Sometimes MRI are too sensitive and may give false positive. Hormone changes can cause enhancements.
A biopsy is the best way of diagnosis. I ended up having one today as they found something else which the radiologist thinks it's a fibroadenoma.
Hope it turns out to be benign.
