Does the need for multiple excisions increase recurrence risk?

Have Stage 1 IDC. Am facing a 3rd surgery (DCIS at the margin) and having trouble finding any research on this.

Tumor is small (1cm) and triple positive.

I had three surgeries for DCIS. DCIS isn’t active/invasiv cancer so there shouldn’t be a problem. What did your pathology report say?

Sorry if my original post wasn't clear. I had a cancerous tumor (IDC) removed, but the margins have only DCIS. My question is whether having diffuse DCIS around the tumor (which requires three excisions to clear) increases my chance for recurrence over someone who had clear margins.

As O was told by my cancer team about 50% of people need a second or 3rd surgery for cear margins. Dcis is hard to see as it is in duct so makes getting clear margins sometimes difficult . Hence multiple surgery. Glad theyre being so careful.

Thanks, all! Sorry if my question isn't clear. I am asking whether people like me who need multiple excisions are at increased risk for recurrence even AFTER the margins are cleared. Does the fact that the cells are diffuse increase the likelihood of recurrence? Hope that makes more sense.

The same question is asked over needle biopsies. The medical people say no it doesn't spread cancer, but I find that hard to believe.. sorry. I'll see if I can find a topic for you red.

Here’s one on biopsies. I know not exactly the same thing.

Red will you be having radiation?
