My relative had a biopsy with positive results for breast cancer three weeks ago and still has not been able to get a follow up apoointment. She and her husband have been calling almost daily but still haVe not been given one from a County Hospital. Any suggestions? I am so concerned that time is not on her side.

That is tough, however what most people will say is cancer usually isn’t all that fast growing. A matter of weeks or months (which is my case from diagnosis to surgery, and was the same for my mom when she was diagnosed), typically won’t have a big impact (besides emotionally and stress). However making them wait with no contact isn’t cool. Is the next appointment with a surgeon?

I had a delay for my biopsy being booked, I was given a run around. I started doing some research. The people at the front desk aren’t the ones making the decisions. Try and find the contact details for a doctor in the clinic, google and contact them directly if you can. Doctors have a reputation to adhere to, and must be compassionate. For my biopsy (after my mammogram said with 95% certainly I had cancer at 33 years old), after two weeks of calling the clinic, I did some research online and found the contact details for the head of radiology. I called them directly, left a kind message, and voiced my concerns. The next day they called me back personally and I ha my biopsy booked immediately. Being their own advocate is hard in this stressful situation, but important.

    Wishing the best of luck!

thanks for your reply. I believe she needs an appointment with the the surgeon. They call the hospital appointment line and just keep leaving numerous messages. They live in another state than I. I have suggested checking into emergency with pain, which she is having, and getting a contact that way. The way she is being treated seems heartless and negligent. So sad.
