Biopsy today....

I'm having a stereotactic biopsy today at the hospital. Mammo showed suspicious clusters of microcalcifications following a relatively linear pattern. Breast surgeon's office called yesterday to set up an appointment for Jan. 2. Should results come back negative for cancer, will I still need to meet with him?

There are some benign conditions that are still recommended be removed, so it will depend on what the official diagnosis is. If it is a benign condition that increases the risk of cancer developing in the future, or if it is a condition that is causing you discomfort, you may be advised to see a surgeon to discuss your options.

Thank you! Biopsy itself was not bad. They numbed me enough that I really didn't feel anything. It was just very uncomfortable and awkward. Because of where the calcifications are located, they had a hard time locating them for the biopsy. I ended up having to put my left breast AND my arm through the hole, and then holding my arm in a weird position while they did their work. Now I know how my car feels when it goes in to the mechanic! lol They are hoping to have results Friday, but no guarantee.

Results are back. Appears to be ADH. Meeting with breast surgeon next week. The doctor from hospital who called with results said that due to the large number of abnormal cells, the surgeon will want to do surgery to remove more tissue as my breasts are very dense. She said there is concern about what is behind the area where they did the stereotactic biopsy. Thankful that it was nothing more serious.
