Newly diagnosed, In ireland, any more of us out there?
I am 50, they found it early and it is small, so prognosis is good. it was picked up by the national screening programme. Still waiting on the pathology, to identify the type, but the consultant is '95%' confident that it is a small, treatable cancer.
It's a bit of head wrecker

yes, it is a bit of a head wrecker. I was diagnosed October 19, had bi-lateral masectomy on November 13th. I am now cancer free. Mine was found very early and it hasn't spread to my lymph nodes. Only had the cancer in my right breast. I chose the double, but didn't have to do it. Biggest advise is too stay positive, don't allow negativity and fear into your thinking. I was able to do that and I'm normally a huge whiner and complainer. Just take one day at a time, try not to project into the future, do just what is in front of you, on any given day. That's been my experience and it worked for me. I'm not In Ireland, but according to ancestry . Com, I'm 48% Irish. Good luck. Stay strong.

So sorry that you've found yourself needing this site -- but it's the best place for support, encouragement and understanding.
Please know this road gets better as you progress along it. I promise. Right now you're in the hardest place. I'm a relative newbie, too, and totally found this to be true.
{hugs}

I'm in Florida, but I know what you are talking about. i was diagnosed in March, 2017 and just had a bilateral mastectomy in May, 2017, so this is relatively new to me. I was Stage 1A and my tumor was about .5 mm with no nodes involved. My surgeon could not do a lumpectomy as planned because I had two small "things" that turned out to be nothing. So rather than have him just take off that breast, I opted to have a bilateral. I just didn't want to have to worry. I am not having reconstruction, as I am 70 and don't want to go through that process.
This website is wonderful. There are so many resources and tons of information. You also will connect with people from all over the world, and we will all be right here to support you through your journey.
We spent some time in Ireland several years ago and loved every minute! Welcome

Thank you. All the support is good. I'm still feeling like it's happening to someone else.

EdelC- that happens. It is a very surreal feeling at first. I used to wake up quite often thinking that I had such a bad dream. But then as soon as I moved or looked down, reality struck and I realized that it was not a dream. it takes some getting used to. I had my diagnosis in March 2017 and bilateral mastectomy May 3, 2017, and I am still dealing with it. So just take your days one at a time. We are her for you.

It's so strange. I went for a first routine mammogram on the 27 Nov as a kind of a novelty, not dreaming that anything would come of it. Then last week diagnosed. It's great that it's so fast, but the speed adds to the dislocation.
I guess surgery on the2nd will make it real fairly fast.

Best wishes with that Edel. XXX
