I was just diagnosed on Monday with stage 2 grade 3 triple negative Invasive ductal carcinoma. I met with my breast surgeon yesterday and was told I would need 5 months of chemo and then surgery. My port placement is scheduled for Tuesday and then I will meet my oncologist on Thursday. What can I expect with the port placement? It's going on the underside of my right arm. As I'm sure you are familiar, everything is moving so fast I can't seem to wrap my head around it all.

    HI Lmm83,

Look like we're on the same boat. I'm 41this year and mother of four. I've got the surgery done three weeks ago and port inserted under local anesthesia, 3days ago. The surgeon took around 30min to insert it under the skin near my clavicle. We talked while he operated on me. Sore but bearable. I'm gonna kick start the chemo tomorrow, regime would take 6months to complete AC+paclitaxel.

I'm staying positive. Let's just pray for the best

    Hugs...

My port placement took place as an outpatient, under general anesthesia (but mild), maybe an hour tops?. It was not difficult at all, and it never hurt. It was able to be used 3 days after placement. I was really grateful for it because it meant I didn't have to be I'Vd every single time I had infusions, etc. When I was done with tx I had it taken out with a local anesthetic in my doctor's office.

I asked him to give it to me after he took it out, and I turned it into recyclable art (true story, ;)
