The day I got the call
Hello Everyone,
My journey began in May when I went in for a routine mammogram. Needed follow up mammogram, ultrasound, biopsy and here I am. I received the phone call Monday, December 11, 2017@9:12am from the radiologist who performed my biopsy. Unfortunately the test results indicate a malignancy. Those words will reign in the back of my head for a while I suppose.
So the easy part is over. Right? I allowed my husband to listen via speaker phone so we both heard at the same time. I had the not so pleasure of telling my parents, grandmother, close aunts, friends and my sister/cousin. My heart breaks for them!!! The fear in their voice and look on their eyes! I'm afraid for them so I'm praying and asking God to give them the strength needed to survive this.
My kids are afraid yet my son who is 15 is so lighthearted that he is still joking and being positive. Both my daughters cried tears of fear. It's easy to be afraid of something you don't know. But I do know I serve a living God!!! Pastor Louie gigilo preached a sermon about being careful who you invite to sit at your dinner table. It's extremely important who you break bread with!!! Some folks barge into your life unexpectedly and offer guidance, wisdom and leave last impressions. But others sneak in and try to steal and take away things that don't belong to them. That's unexpected visitor is cancer. Little does he know he is seated across from Jesus!!!
This is his season to shine and I am going to allow him to shine ever so bright in my life. Allow him to shine bright in your life as well!!
Tomorrow I am meeting with surgeons at the breast cancer institute of GA. This is a process that I must go to in order to be prepared for what lies ahead!!! Yep there will be days of uncertainty, but I am confident and will trust God with the outcome.
Prayers for us all!

What a great attitude!
I think we all remember “the call” that ultimately changed our lives forever. For me it wasn’t a shock because I had already received the predicted grim prognosis from the Radiologist. Still scary but I was calm considering.
The process should move quickly now for you. I was in a fog most of the time but still managed to keep my game face on for my family. I know they were scared. So was I but I allayed my fears to others - family members and friends.
I am 6 years out last August. I will always be nervous before my annual mammo but less anxious as the years go by.
You will be okay. BC doesn’t define you or us. We are all testaments of survival.
So keep the faith and keep us posted.

I believe God gives us our intelligence as a way to protect ourselves from harm. Now is the time to use that God-given gift of intelligence to get the best treatment possible for yourself; you--we--all deserve the best treatment to eradicate this disease and walked in unannounced. Know that we can get treatment options by finding the best, credible research, asking questions and (if we have to) demanding answers spoken in a language we can understand from our doctors, and having faith that this is just another disease--heart disease and diabetes can be fatal, just as little c can be--if not treated. We have to have faith that little c can be cured (although docs won't ever use that C word), because IT CAN. Millions of women go on to live very long lives and die of old age, not of c.
And c may be sitting at the dinner table, but we don't have to feed it ANYTHING, so to speak.
Hugs

Now I think I'm starting to see the light "in my rapunzel voice". I have a meeting with the genetics counselor this Friday the 5th, bilateral MRI guided biopsy January 8th and my meeting with the breast surgeon Jan 11th.
So hopefully the surgery will be scheduled soon. I'm thinking middle January.
