Hello I have been feeling really bad for over a year now my nipples are sore i have discharge my right breast i get what they say is an infection in it and it swells up burns and hurts. But they say nothing is wrong. They keep me at a Birad 3 on my MRI and want me every six months. You can clearly see many changes between the scans in the last 11 months but they say nothing is wrong.

Is there somewhere i can go to have some one do a second look at the scans my surgeon they sent me to said she can not do anything asked her to go over the images and she would only go over the report with me.

    Hey Candy,

I'm sorry about your situation... which state do you live in? Is there no other BS to offer a second opinion? Has antibiotics not been given?

What changes do you see between the scans that worry you?

Candy, can you tell us more about "feeling bad?" Have you went to a dermatologist yet? You can have a bacterial or fungal infection. Even a variety of STDs can present in the nipples. Maybe a consult with a dermatologist would be a good idea.

candy, just fyi, surgeons aren't experts in reading mri (they read the reports that Radiologists prepare), so I'm not sure that will help you. In fact, my understanding is that all radiologists aren't even experts at reading mri. Breast mri should be read by someone who does that every day, who is expert at reading mri of the breast, not just mri (of say the knee or other body part). If you want a second opinion, IMO you want another Radiologist at an imaging center who specializes in breast mri.

I am wondering what you mean when you say "you can clearly see changes"? You personally see them? Do you have training in reading mri?

Maybe someone can help me. I am confused and lost here. 3 yrs ago I felt a lump in left breast. Primary care felt also. Sent me to surgeon who said she couldn't feel anything. Primary also sent me to oncologist. She felt lump as well. I have had 3d mammograms for yrs. Very dense breast tissue. They seen nothing. Had sonagram seen nothing. Was told to come back in yr for new scans. Did that for 3 yrs. During this time I have had pain and swelling in left breast. This last round of scans they found a complicated cyst they called it. I had to have an MRI of breast. Then they found more on right breast. Had another sonagram. There was another cyst on the right breast as well. Waiting to hear from oncologist on what's next. So far they are saying to get things rechecked in 6 months. Now I have found this greyish discharge from one spot in left breast. (The pain full one). I have a feeling they are just going to say wait The 6 months to do scans again. I have been dealing with all this for 3 yrs. I am not sure what to do. Do I keep waiting? Do I see if they will biospy? Do I see different Drs? Cancer runs rampit in my family. Mother and grandfather both died from it. I am not so much worried about the cancer. I am tired of the pain and swelling. I can hardly wear a bra anymore and that is embarrassing to me.

Has anyone else been thru anything like this?

Hi concernedone95, what you're going through must indeed be very hard nervously. I think I would go for a second opinion. Which means go to a different doctor.

Before being diagnosed I had all my mammographies performed by the same doctor who never saw anything.

It's only thank to my daughter who insisted on me seeing a different doctor, that I went to the gyneacologist. He immediately felt something was wrong, and asked for a biopsy. Stupidly enough, I had the biopsy performed by my regular radiologist and again it came back with negative results. But fortunatly, the gyneacologist insisted on getting a second opinion, second biopsy ... by a doctor he knew. And the second result showed it was indeed an cancerous tumor.

This is just 'my' story. So please don't be afraid.

Getting a second advice is in all cases something that helps me. Ever since then, even now that I'm in treatment and have a very good oncologist, I get a second advice from time to time when my treatment has to be changed. I just feel safer, by doing so.

I hope everything will be fine for you and send you as many positive vibes and as much love I can.

(sorry if my English is not always very correct, it's not a language I practice a lot).

went to Denver last week and seen another specialist. She did a punch biopsy. Have not got anything back just yet and I am worried. My nipple is flat it itches and outer part is spreading. Should I be worried it’s taking so long for biopsy to come back

That seems a long time to wait, candy! I'd get on the phone tomorrow and start raising a fuss.

My GP got my biopsy results 3 days after. I can see maybe a week but not longer. That's crazy.....

Hi Candy. If you don't have the biopsy results by Tuesday afternoon I would call (or drop by) to follow up. A week is not an unusually long time to wait but they should at least be able to give you an idea of when you can expect the report.

ConcernedOne, so sorry this is causing so much stress. An MRI is a very sensitive test, so if they found benign cysts that is actually good news; it means it is not cancer. Discharge may mean you have a pappiloma (also non-cancerous) and I can see that the swelling and soreness would be of concern. Sounds like you should seek a second opinion at a breast cancer center, even if you need to travel to do it. Best of luck to you.
