Bi-Rads 3 Return in 1 month

Hi all! So thankful for this forum! I’ve been reading a lot but haven’t come across a situation like mine. I felt a lump in my right breast and was immediately scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound. A 2.3 cm irregular mass was found. Rad put it at Birads 3 return in one month for follow up ultrasound. I know people are normally told to come back in 6 months but why just one month for me? I am so glad I don’t have to wait much longer. I still feel the lump and it hasn’t changed. Any others out there with similar stories or know of any? Did they turn out to be cancer or b9?

Hi,

I am new to the forum, and so glad to find it! I have been going through the re-imaging merry-go-round for years. Mine were always for Birad3, and some were at three month intervals, yet, others were six months. To date, I have been blessed and all turned out to be changes in density or calcification formation. I truly hope yours will be the same.

I was called today to schedule the ultrasound. It’s for December 7th at 8:45 am. So I only have to wait for one more week which is comforting. I was reading my report and it says “Recommend short term follow up to document resolution”. The lump is still there, same size, no changes to it. If anything it feels a little longer to me

Hi Moo-Moo,

I am glad you are at least getting further testing and doc isn't blowing you off. As I have read with many others in the forum we have to be our own best advocate. Trust your instincts and what your body is telling you. I always have my primary physician write my mammo order to include an ultrasound if indicated, that way I can get it done immediately following the mammo without having to come back or go through the stressful wait period. I have been going through this for quite a while, and have had some frightening follow-ups which turned out to be nothing after MRI was completed. My biggest fear is that I moved to another state four years ago, and since moving none of my Mammo's have shown anything remotely close to what has been reported for the last 15 years.

I have had calcifications and very dense breasts that are hard to image for as long as I can remember. I have a strong family history for breast cancer but genetic testing only shows ATM marker-which they said they don't really know much about at this time.

I have a palpable lump in right breast that mammo and ultrasound do not indicate but upon imaging the radiologist found asymmetrical change in left breast. Hence the six month follow up this time around. My primary wants me to come in for a physical on Dec. 8, so I think I am going to ask her for a prescription for an MRI.

I wish you all the best for your upcoming ultrasound, I would ask them to image under your arms really well too, they just imaged the area I was feeling a lump in and I really felt they should be more thorough.

Fab65 Sorry you’ve been going through this for so long. It’s such a rollercoaster. I know the odds are in my favor to turn out b9 but it’s still scary. I am hoping I don’t have to wait to long for the results. And you’re right we are our own best advocate.

I have a new question for everyone. A little background... I am 32 and had suffered with endometriosis for years. InSeptember I had a complete hysterectomy removing the ovaries as well. This has since cured all pelvic pain. Since then I have been taking a low dose of estrogen each day. Can this be the cause of my mass in breast? I have my follow up ultrasound on Thursday.

I had a partial hysterectomy at 26 due to hemorrhage. subsequently I was diagnosed with endometriosis as well. A couple years later they removed my right ovary and a section of my left. The doctor said that hormone replacement could increase my chances for breast cancer. Of course that has been almost 27 years ago, and as with all things medically related, things change. I have a strong family history of breast cancer as well as CRC and melanoma. I hope you get more knowledgeable insight from other readers. I know I opted against the hormone replacement because I already was having other issues occurring in my breasts.
