One-Sided Sisters. Left my boob in the house.

Options

One-sided sisters belong to a special group of women. We are the ones who can get all dressed up to go to a fancy wedding. Jump into the car and say "Damn, I forgot and left my boob in the house." I've been on hormone therapy and very depressed, but when this happened to me a few weeks ago, I laughed so hard and so long that I have just felt better since.

I thought I wanted reconstruction, but now I'm not so sure.

    hi,

I'm glad you had a laugh, they say laughter is the best medicine.

I am constantly changing my mind about reconstruction; the climate where I live is hot and my prosthesis is hot and heavy, so reconstruction sounds good. But I am struggling to loose 10kg in weight to be eligible for surgery. I also then think I'm strong and healthy now I should be grateful and happy as I am.

I wish there was an easy answer/fix.

All the best for what ever decision you make xx

Your thread title made me laugh =D Been there, done that (although only on the way to a concert).

Over the past two years I’ve gone from screaming because the surgeon refused to remove my other breast when they took off the cancer one, to being just fine with only one. I’ve read that unless one has the BRCA genes, prophylactic mastectomy does not increase survival. I have (luckily pretty well controlled now) lymphedema on my operated side, and am unwilling to risk getting it also on the other side (which apparently is possoble even if no nodes are removed). Yes, I hate prostheses, and I’m still self-consciuos looking so lopsided when I go without a prothesis in public (even when braless at home, if there are other people around). But I’m just not willing to lose time to surgery and recovery from either recon or having the other breast off.

    Wishing you well :)

This was posted awhile ago, but I just wanted to say "thanks for posting". So funny! We got a puppy in the fall, and once he had something expensive in his mouth, so my husband grabbed my knitted knocker out of my handbag (we had been bra shopping that day) and threw it for the dog to chase so he would drop the other item. We all laughed so hard my kiddos fell on the floor in a fit of laughter and tears. Gotta laugh when we can. :) Thanks for sharing.

Yes I am over the one sided tragedy for me. Lol. Its been 5 years and I dont care what i look like. It doesnt hurt now. Im not suffering with infection or expander pain. I dont even hide it. Im happy being one sided. I cared at 41 but not at 48. Best wishes to all

about 9 weeks out from no reconstruction after mastectomy. About to start radiation & tamoxifen. Having issues with soft weighted prosthesis moving around. Any helpful hints and are the silicone ones better? I'm not ready for that yet. Thx

With my new bras (sports bras from JCPenney), my soft insert doesn't move at all. But with my old ones they did. I simply used a safety pin on the bottom of it to keep it in place.

I have dreams all the time that prosthetics pop out or that I take them out and put them on the table during dinner in restaurants. Weird dreams like that. These dreams have replaced those weird dreams you have like forgetting to get dressed or whatever. I have some kind of dream like that once a week lately. In one dream a guy was trying to rob the gas station I was at so I pulled out my prosthetic and started chucking them it at him. It smacked him in the head and knocked him out though in real life I am sure it woudn't do much.
