Bone Scan This Wednesday: How fast can cancer come back?

I am one year and four days past my last day of treatment. At my mammo today, which was clear, I complained of recent back pain, and she wrote "Metastatic Workup" on my chart and ordered a bone scan, which is scheduled for this Wednesday. Could I already have mets only one year after treatment? PET Scan twenty months ago was negative. I was 100% ER/PR+ and have been religiously taking my Aromasin.

I am, of course, freaking OUT.

What am I even asking? For reassurance? For comfort? For information? I don't even know. I guess, I'm wondering how soon after treatment can cancer grow? I have always believed that I would be among the women who progressed to Stage IV, but I thought I'd have more than a year.

Yes, I believe cancer can appear within a year of treatment, it's sneaky that way, however, any complaints of pain should be taken seriously and they're probably just being safe. Either way, knowing is better :)

It can comeback anytime. I am glad they are taking your pain seriously. Keep us posted. Hoping it is from a different cause. Remember that there are tons of causes for back pain, and most have nothing to do with csncer
