Hello,

Im 32, mum of 2 kids. For the past 6 months i have been having pain in my left breast which comes and goes. Its mostly in sync with my cycle. I went to my GP who recommended an ultrasound. The report of the US said there was a small nodule 12o clock from the nipple 0.5 cm which was probably benign but a targetted second US was needed. Birad 0. I was called again next week for a 2nd US. The technician(a different one this time) told me then n there that the nodule didnt look benign n in her opinion i should have a biopsy. It was irregular and taller than wide. Birad 4. I had my biopsy last week n got the results today. Nodular adenosis (Benign). But the surgeon said that the pathology report will be sent to the radiologist who made my US report and he if he feels theres a need for another biopsy then we will have another one. And if not then ill have to go and have another US in 3 months. I asked him the reason and he said just to see if its growing or not. Im quite confused..if its benign then why do we have to have a biopsy again and y another ultrasound after 3 months. Usually the masses that are not biopsied are the ones that require regular screenings.

After a month of stressing and not getting proper sleep in still worried and confused. Can anyone help me with my questions or have similar experiences.

Hi Sunshine. First, congratulations on having a good result from the biopsy. I am guessing that the radiologists are just being cautious since there is some scientific literature about a relationship between nodular adenosis and DCIS. So while all of this is certainly confusing, I hope you can find a way to reduce your stress and take your mind off it for awhile. Odds are that the next review will confirm everything is fine, so I'd focus on that for now. But others will doubtless chime in.

    Best wishes to you!
