Should I get a second opinion?

Hey ladies!

I'm 26 years old, a mommy to a 8 month old baby girl. I found lumps in both my breasts and also have large lymphnodes under both my armpits (they've been enlarged for over a month). For the past 2 days I've had pain in my should and chest area and I can't even lift my arm up. I went to see a doctor yesterday for the lumps. He checked me for 10 seconds and said "I wouldn't worry. You're too young for breast cancer". The doctor is a young resident and barely even touched my lumps. He said to follow up in 6 months. I insisted on an ultrasound and he said there was no point. I got mad and said I wanted one anyway, so finally he filled in a request. He said it could take a while before I get a call because "it's not urgent". I am literally going crazy. I have a feeling this could really be cancer. The texture of my breasts changed, I have lumps everywhere and some pain. I'm so disappointed he just brushed me off like that. Does this seem normal? Can he really tell its not cancer just by feeling my lumps?

Thanks so much in advance.

Hi there. I'm so sorry you had a bad experience and yes, I'd definitely get the ultrasound so good for you for insisting. Personally, I'd do that first and then see where you go from there; if the ultrasound is at all troubling you will be referred to a specialist who will know way more than the doctor you saw. But please try not to worry tho that is easier said than done I know. Odds are everything is ok.

Get the ultrasound - and continue to advocate for yourself like you did - I would find out where the ultrasound is going to be and see if there is list of patients they call when people cancel appointments, etc....
