ultrasound findings

Hi Everyone,

I've been having itching and some pain behind my left nipple/areolar area. There is also a small bump under my nipple. After my 3-D mammogram, they said I needed to stay and have an ultrasound done. The results say "dilated retroareolar ducts, clinical follow-up is recommended."

Questions: What does that mean? Why do the ducts behind the nipple dilate? I'm not having ANY discharge, just itching, occasional pain, and night sweats. My GYN called me and said she wanted me to see a breast surgeon. WHY? Is something INSIDE the dilated duct, causing it to enlarge?
