Second opinion pathology report

Hello.

I am new to the site but have been looking through the posts for a while.  I recently had surgery and have my final pathology report.  It seems that it is advisable to seek a second opinion on the pathology report before starting post-surgery treatment.  Does anyone have any recommendations where to seek a second opinion pathology?  Is it your current medical oncologist who will request this at another institution or how do I go about doing it?  Thank you.

Hi Jessiei, sorry you find yourself here. But here is also a great place to get info and support. It seems that pathology is very subjective, so a second opinion wouldn't hurt. Mine seemed to change every single time some other place looked at it. I would get a second opinion from a major medical center. I don't know what is near you, but I'm in Massachusetts, so I chose to go to Dana Farber. They offer an online second opinion service, but I don't know if insurance covers online services.

    Best of luck to you!!

    Hi Jessiei,

Welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're so sorry you find yourself here, but we're really glad you found us! As Cpeachymom mentioned, our Community is an incredible resource of support and information -- we're all here for you!

You may find some helpful info on the main Breastcancer.org site's pages on Getting a Second Opinion.

Also, we noticed in another post you have been diagnosed with DCIS with microinvasion -- you may want to introduce yourself on our DCIS With Microinvasion forum, where you can meet others with a similar diagnosis.

We hope this helps and look forward to hearing more from you soon!
