Pet Scan question

I am waiting to have a surgical biopsy in about 2 weeks due to atypical cells found in my stereotactic biopsy (to check calcifications). I was thinking about this last night and wondering why they don't do a pet scan instead? I will ask the dr but until then figured maybe would see if someone knows.
