HMO vs PPO

I currently have a medical plan that is a PPO. I like that I can go to whoever I want when I want. However in 4 years our insurance has gone up from $1100 a month (family of 4 ) to 1880 per month for 2018 😳. We also have a huge deductible. Hubby has been looking at an HMO with health net. I'm aware that you have to get a referral to see a specialist. What else do I need to be aware of? I worry because it looks good on paper, but every time we do something like this something we didn't know about pops up and we are 😡Thoughts?

Thanks

Nancy

Are your doctors in the HMO network? If not, do you mind changing doctors?

I was leery for years of using an HMO. But several years ago I decided to try one because most insurances available to us, we carry our own since my husband is self employed, are HMO plans. I haven't had any more or any less trouble dealing with the HMO than my previous PPO, so I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I do have to do is make sure that my doctors are in network when I choose a plan, since there is no out of network benefits at all. If your doctors are on the HMO network it might be worth changing plans.
