Just diagnosed at 33

So I was just diagnosed with IDC, stage 2/3. My doctor says it is mod risk for having spread but of course they won't know until they get in there. Meeting with a surgical oncologist tomorrow. I'm 33, this is the last thing I thought I'd have to think of. The tumor appears to be 1.4 x 1.5 x 0.7 cm on imaging but I know that isn't definitive. How did I not notice this sooner? I'm devestated

ToughCookie, Sorry you find yourself here, but welcome. Many, many women never felt a lump or thickening, incl myself and are told they have breast cancer. Don't blame yourself. Everyone has a story behind their findings. Try to keep yourself busy until you have all the results in, the grade, hormone receptor status etc. It's a shock and its like being enveloped in a fog. I was there only a few months ago. Once you know which direction you are headed in with surgery options, whether or not chemo is needed, you will have a plan and feel more in control to getting yourself back.

Find lots of great information and support on here. Please let us know how it goes at the Oncologist tomorrow.

tough cookie, please don't be too hard on yourself about not finding it sooner. My lump felt like it was the size of an egg and I swear it appeared overnight. They say cancer grows slow but I don't believe it's always the case, I had a clear mammo 18 months before diagnosis and did self exams, yet here I am.

Toughcookie, sorry to hear about your dx.

I was your age when I got my dx. I had a clear ultrasound 12 months before dx and my lump, which felt as big as an egg as well, appear only 1 month before my dx. I thought it was hormones changing but when it didn't disappear I went to the doctor. don't blame yourself. you still caught early. Be gentle to yourself.

Thank you beach2beach, illimae and Lolis. It is a tough time for sure. I know this is the least of my worries, but I have only beendating my boyfriend for 8 months. Of course this is upsetting him and I'm pushing him away anticipating he'll leave. This totally changed our relationship and I'm not confident he'll stay. If he can't handle this I'd rather he leave now than halfway through treatment
