Wife's screening mammogram recall...would like some info please

Hello,

Yesterday at 1pm my wife attended an appointment at our rural Breastscreen WA service. She has just turned 43. About a month ago, she attended a women's wellness clinic and had a clinical breast examination by a GP, who stated, whilst her breast were very, very fibrous there was nothing she was concerned about.

Today (the day after her screening mammogram!) she received a call asking her to come in for a re-imaging. She required this in only one breast. While she is not too concerned I am terrified (I do suffer from medically diagnosed health anxiety).

My question is, should I be concerned about the swiftness of the re-call? Why would they do this and what are the chances she may have breast cancer?

I realise this is not a medical service, however I would love some advice from people who may have had experience in this area. She has no family history, no symptoms and as I said, recently had a clinical breast examination without concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

They recall women all the time for re-imaging. Don't jump to conclusions so quickly. Especially if she has dense and/or fibrous breasts, perhaps the first pics weren't clear enough, or they want to get a better look at something. I have a friend who used to get recalled all the time, now she goes to the hospital for mammos and waits for them to be read

in the 18 years during which I had mammograms, I was probably called back at least 50% of the time. Young, dense breasts are hard to "read". They'll probably do some spot compressions over the areas of concern.

Hang in there. Your wife is young and much less likely to have BC than a woman in her 60s (like me.)
