Hi, all. I found a palpable lump in my right breast about 9 weeks ago. The doctor felt it too and sent me for mammogram (even though I’m only 31) and ultrasound. The mammogram tech and ultrasound tech also easily felt my lump but nothing showed on the films except for a lymph node near my lump. The lymph node measured 5cm. I am still waiting on the official report but they told me they didn’t see anything concerning and to come back when I’m 40. However, I decided to look up intramammory lymph nodes (and lymph nodes in general) when I got home and everything says anything over 1cm is considered abnormal. Im curious if anyone else happened to have 5cm node (or one greater than 1cm) and was told it’s normal? Thanks in advance!

are you sure they said the lymph node was 5cm and not the lump? (you said they found a lymph node near your lump) I might wait for the report and go over it carefully, paying attention to the impression and recommendation sections as well as the BIRADS score. Then you'll have better information. If there are confusing parts, please post them here and we can help you better understand.

They actually were not able to see my lump on the ultrasound but the tech could feel it. She was scanning the area around where she felt the lump and found the lymph node. She measured it and typed in the measurement on the screen. I know it said 5 cm because I took a double take, thinking that seemed kinda big for a lymph node (and she said it’s size twice).

I actually got a call from my doctor this afternoon and she is sending me to a breast surgeon. The report she recieved said I would need a follow up mammogram after some time (she didn’t say how long) to monitor the “inflammatory intramammory lymph node”. I’m sure I’ll know more once I get a copy of the report and will post more info then.
