I'm 24. I will not be able to have children?

Hi everyone I just got my surgery and now my treatment will include hormonal therapy.. I have 2 children but I'm not ready for not having more.. doctor said "if u have this "illusion" of having more children u should cancel your ovaries function before taking chemo. But I recommend to take your ovaries out." Can someone please advice me about this? Someone did chemo and hormonal therapy and have baby now?

Toni- I can't advise on having children post treatment but I just wanted to say that I am so so sorry that you have to deal with this at your age. So not fair. I know someone will be along who will be able to offer you guidance as I've seen a few posts on here about having children post treatment. I wish you all the best and go kick this cancer's ass.

Toni- So sorry you find yourself here! I'm a bit older but wasn't sure I was done having children either. Shutting down your ovaries helps protect them from treatment to hopefully preserve fertility. I get a monthly Lupron shot. I didn't have chemo but I am taking Tamoxifen for the next five years. There are boards on this site for women trying to conceive after treatment. And there Are success stories! Head over to the Young with Breast Cancer Forum and scroll down just a little to find these very topics should check them out. Of course, there are no guarantees, but there is definitely Hope! Best of luck to you..

An appt. with a Reproduction Specialist would be a good idea if you are wanting more children in the future. I know basically nothing about having children post chemo but there have been some here who had had eggs harvested and saved for future use.

Your age may actually be a benefit. Many young women diagnosed will regain their ovarian function after chemo.

Now, whether or not your Oncologist will give you the "OK" to have more kids is a different story. Most of them will say you need to do hormone therapy for a few years after your active treatment (chemo and surgery) before they will let you pause to have a baby.

Why are they recommending you take out the ovaries? Are you BRCA positive?

I am doing ovarian suppression, which is temporary. Removing the ovaries is permanent and can cause a lot of problems. If you are BRCA 1/2 positive and have increased risk for Ovarian cancer it's a reasonable suggestion by your Dr. but still, you don't have to do that right away either.

Hi knitpig thank you a lot for your information I didn't do a DNA test I'm searching a place for doing this.. I don't know why my doctor suggested that. He said chemo will hurt my ovaries and we will reduce cancer insurance in ovaries .. I will ask my oncologist 11-15 it will be first date 😁
