Exercise after Lumpectomy

After my lumpectomy I stared walking the next day, 4 days later tried doing a beginner step aerobics video, at 1 week I went for a bike ride. Then my arm swelled up at the incision site causing me major pain. I haven't been doing much exercise since and I feel it. I feel bloated, fat, depressed and anxious. Exercise is how I get over my anxiety, but it hurts to do the step videos currently. I am posting here for two reasons: 1) Any tips for exercise, other than walking? 2) Is there a link for exercises we are allowed to do after the lumpectomy?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I enrolled in a beginner yoga class but did have to modify some of the poses that involved the pectoral muscles - like plank or downward dog, or some of the poses that start with laying face down - just let your instructor know about your surgery (I did this in private because the whole class didn't need to know) so she can help you modify the poses. I found it very helpful. Best of luck to you.

If your arm is swollen, please contact your surgeon. There's a chance you're in the process of developing lymphedema, which, the earlier it's addressed, the better. Or, like me, you may have a bleeder. A week after surgery, I developed a racquetball-sized lump under my sentinel node incision. The surgeon was able to take care of it almost right away. Third possibility is an infection.

Hi Brookside, thankfully my BC drained some fluid off yesterday. What a relief, I just wish he had taken more of it! I suppose one full needle was enough for one day. Lol

Tlfrank, that's a good idea, yoga ous so good for the core!
