Drain removal....prepare me
does it hurt so bad? I am going today and two of the four should come out. I am scared of the pain. Is it awful

Why do you expect it to hurt? I don't recall it hurting at all. It's very quick, they just pull it out and it takes a second or les
-
I had a breast reduction year’s ago and the only part I remember is the drains hurting when removed. I am hoping your experience is more like what I have in store.
-
I only had one drain. I felt a slight tugging sensation as it was removed. The Dr. did it very quick. It didn't hurt at all.
-
Kahnartist- we all handle things differently and we all have different pain tolerance levels.
That being said, I had no pain when drain was removed
Wish you little to no pain, too
-
thank you guys. I am hoping like the other stuff I have had to do this will be more hype in my head. Thanks you all
-
nothing too bad. More like a pinch. It's over before you know it. Don't watch the doc pull it out.. turn your head the other way. Wishing you zero pain!
-
No pain here either. A weird tugging sensation. They counted and had me cough on three (when they pulled). When I finished coughing, it was done.
-
I was like mtnwoman. As a matter of fact, I kept coughing and coughing until I realized the doc, his assistant and my DD were laughing hysterically. Apparently, the drain had been pulled out quickly and painlessly but I didn't notice and just kept coughing
-
No pain here either. Just a gentle tug.
Hoping for zero pain for you as well.
Good luck

I had 4. It didn't hurt or pinch. Best of luck!
-
None of my 4 drains hurt when removed but they did feel really really weird when coming out--like a yuck feeling. Like a shudder remembering it
--not painful though. But as each drained was pulled just as I was registering that I felt that really yucky feeling it was over and done with so very quick. -
thank you

Hey, Kahnartist, how'd it go?
With the nine surgeries I've had for this rodeo, each one involving 1-5 drains, I know my way around a Jackson-Pratt! Pulling them out is easy-peasy. The surgeon snips the stitch and zzzzzzzipp, it's in the trash. The surgeon even had my husband remove one once at home, and he's an engineer, not anything medical.
Getting that stiff tubing and irritating stitch out is a big step on the road to recovery!
-
it went much better than I psyched myself out. As usual! It was easy and only felt weird since I could feel the drain being pulled. I am a little sore now but that can be expected. I am hoping the other two will come out Friday at my bs post op. I am sick of them
-
it didn't hurt. It was a weird sensation, but not painful. I wish I had recorded it because the nurse said she could see it as it was pulled out.
-
I'm glad for both of you!
-
I was scared too. I closed my eyes and gritted my teeth waiting on a terrible pain and it was over so quickly... I couldn't believe it didn't hurt...
-
Because of hospital mix up I removed my own drain. Found how to do it on the Internet...and did it....no pain at all. Don't recommend this mind you, just that I got fed up..there wasn't even a "funny" feeling, except for my husband when I showed him the drain. Nearly passed out. lol.
-
It reminded me, as gross as it sounds, of that feeling you get when you suck noodles up into your mouth if a long one doesn't get wound around the fork (or if you're eating noodles with chopsticks).
Only put that feeling in your chest area instead.

-
I had two removed 5 days ago. Pulling them out, I would say there was a burning sensation. But it was gone in two minutes or less. I would suggest taking an anti-anxiety and pain pill prior to going in. This will help relieve the anxiety and pain. One of the easiest parts of mastectomy.
-
I didn't feel anything I told doctor to pull it slowly, he said look that light on the roof to distract me😂. drain was coming out from my armpit because I had instant reconstruction and just an Omega incision on my nipple.
-
My surgeon promised it wouldn't hurt. He kept his word
