Mets in hip bone - too damaged for hip replacement
has anyone experienced this problem. Met with my surgeon and clearly from X-rays can see how badly the bone has been affected by the cancer. Cannot do standard hip replacement, although has told me of a more major op which replaces part of pelvis too? Depending on the rest of my body not having any more lesions - I have small lesion on liver - and staying healthy enough for an op. Gives me hope

Sorry I have no experience with this, but I think a 2nd opinion to confirm everything is the first thing I would do. What would happen if you don't get the surgery? How is your mobilty now? I think it would depend on how tolerable the situation is without the surgery. These are the questions I would ask of the Dr and myself, as it sounds like a retty long recovery.

Also wanted to add if you just have that one liver met can they do a local procedure on that to get rid of it? If you are healthy otherwise I would say go for the surgery, get the liver met taken care of and possibly get a very good quality of life back in the end. Maybe whatever treatment you are on will resolve the liver met further.

Someone with better experience should be along soon to help. Sorry, I really need to think the whole thing through before I post so I don't end up posting 3 times!

Thank you HLB. I get latest results of CT tomorrow. I am Irish, living in Spain. Private Medicine is very unusual here and not so good as state health if you can understand. All my treatment has been very prompt and Oncologist and Surgeon very caring and honest. I may have a few more questions to ask. My mobility at the moment is just ok. I can walk with a cane, go up and down stairs etc. Can also drive. I just cannot do distance on foo. So could be worse.

Oncology appointment yesterday went well. Cat scan shows all well with organs. Lesion in liver very small. So keeping healthy is the main issue to go forward for surgery. Thank you everyone who read my post. I feel much better knowing my options. Best wishes to everyone, hoping your day goes well.

I had bone Mets in my hip bone. I did not get a replacement but surgery was done on my hip and a metal rod was put in and then Radiation. After 12 weeks I was walking with a cane(bone grew back). Now I walk unassisted. I get an Xgeva shot for the bones. I am NED.
