Core Biopsy, B9- Uncertainty, Clip "Fell Out" After Biopsy?!?
Hello,
22 years old, found a lump (about 1x1cm) in my breast about two years ago. Had it looked at by my doctor about a year ago and was told it was probably a cyst, just told to watch it. Noticed that it grew in size about a month ago (to 1x3 cm), went to Planned Parenthood and got it checked out. Was referred to get it seen by a breast specialist. I don't have health insurance so I applied to the Komen fund and (bless them) was approved, and was able to undergo testing. Had my ultrasound last week and found it was solid, not cystic, so I scheduled my core biopsy. The tumor is dumbbell shaped, like two nodes connected- the new growth is the second node that is right behind my nipple.
Went in for my biopsy yesterday, and was not impressed by the radiologist. At first, they had my paperwork wrong and had written down that I was not receiving a clip- the doctor noticed while he was going over the consent form with me and went out in the hall and was asking about it- they just filled out the form wrong. Whatever. Went through the biopsy, and as he was finishing up he said he wanted me to get a mammogram to make sure the clip was in place. I was not expecting to get a mammogram and was confused but went along with it- after the mammogram he told me that "the clip must have fallen out when they [the two nurses assisting] were applying pressure after the biopsy." This seems unlikely to me?? If he placed a clip on my tumor, how could it have just "fallen out" afterwards? I'm worried that the metal clip is floating around in my breast somewhere. I'm also concerned that he only ordered the mammogram because he messed up with the clip placement, and would feel a lot better if he would just tell me he made a mistake, rather than blaming the nurses and charging Komen for unnecessary tests.
That aside, he called me today and told me the good news that my results came back as a fibroadenoma- I have yet to talk to my doctor but we she had talked to me about possibly getting it removed even if it is benign because it has been growing. I don't doubt my radiologist's qualifications, but that whole ordeal left me with some concerns. Should I opt to get the fibroadenoma removed? Should I bring up the clip situation and express my concerns with my doctor? I felt some relief when I got the call this morning, but for some reason it feels like it's not over yet. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this, or any advise as to if I should go ahead with the removal of the lump or not? They never found the clip, is it concerning if it IS floating around in my breast?? I want to make sure this is all over before I celebrate.
Thanks in advance!
