Oophorectomy yes or no????

hello ladies

I am triple positive my oncologist want me to remove my ovaries

I saw surgeon Gyn today and she really square me

That the side effect after oophorectomy are very serious

Now I have to make a decision and I'm lost I don't know what I have to do

Please ladies share your experience with me

Did your oncologist say why she thinks your ovaries should be removed?

yes he told me bcz i'm triple positive and young

I take tamoxifen now

I'm your age and my MO has me on Lupron to suppress my ovaries while I'm taking Tamoxifen. Removal was never even discussed. Seems like that should be an option for you. There is greater risk for ovarian cysts however. I would ask about it.

Hello,

I am 39 years old and had a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction in 2015 due to family history of breast cancer. My family members did not test positive for BRCA1 or BRCA2.

My geneticist has calculated that due to the incidence of breast cancer in my family I have a risk of just under 13% for ovarian cancer.

My gynaecologist and other professionals have recommended that I have the salpingo-ooophorectomy due to the calculated risk. He said that if I suffer with the menopause effects that I can go on HRT because I don't have breast tissue.

I am more concerned about the aftermath of this operation than I was with the double mastectomy. I was wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation? I was also wondering if I start the menopause early due to having the ovaries removed could it potentially last until the age of when I would have had a natural menopause or is it likely to be over within a few years?

I had an oopharectomy 2 weeks ago. It was done laparoscopically. The surgery itself is pretty easy - I took a week off work but really could have gone back earlier. Two days after surgery I went with my husband (he drove)to visit relatives, a 7 hour drive, and did not have any discomfort - took a couple Tylenol just in case! I'm post- menopausal and already on an aromitase inhibitor, so I did not have any issues with estrogen withdrawal.
