What were your chances of a BC recurrence?

I found out today that I will have BMX surgery on Nov 1. I also found out a couple of hours later that I have a 30% chance of recurrence from my genetic test. I guess the number threw me because I've already forgotten exactly what the patient coordinator said...didn't have the gene...but something was faulty. She told me that my surgeon thought I was doing the right thing by having a BMX. The only thing I'm unsure of now is whether to have reconstruction. I feel like it's a waste of time if I'm going to get it again. What if the reconstruction gets in the way of a futrue detection? I thought I had it all figured out today, and now I'm uncertain again. :|

    Hi

I am sorry you are dealing with this.

yes you may have 30% chance of recurrence but you always have a 70% chance of living disease free after your treatment. the choice of having reconstruction is up to you and what makes you feel comfortable. I don't see if you had any nodes involvement but that might be a reason to delay recon if you need to have radiation.

I am approaching my 4 year after dx and hoping to get my recon in early 2018. I had a similar recurrence rate as per some tools the doc used but my decision to delay recon was due to other factors.

do what is best for you and think that you have a 70% if living disease free.

    hugs

    Lola
