Does Fibrocystic Breasts cause back pain?

Hi LDC
I'm sorry you're having worries. But did you found out what's causing ur shoulder neck arm pain? Because I too is experiencing that after my left breast hurt. Did an US and has many small cysts
Thanks

Hi Mary, I'm not sure if I am fibrocystic but my US results came back with many small cysts. My pain is mainly in my left breast. And then started to feel pain all over my left neck shoulder arm and armpit. I was wondering if they are all connected. My OB says it's probably not related. My IM says that cysts might be putting pressure in one ofmy nerves thats causing this shoulder pain. I will see a surgeon this week for opinion. My breast has pain almost everyday, it only subsides during my period. I just finished my period but I'm already feeling a muscle stretch ache, I'm actually scared. I don't know if I should take more exams or should I just follow the 6 month ultrasound.
I cut down my caffeine since these pains started. TBH it feels much better this days than before my period. I am just worried as to why the pain does not go away completely. My bra hurts my left shoulder blade too, my armpit hurts and it radiates to my left nipple.
I hope this is just normal cause I'm really freaking out. This shoulderarm armpit pain is taking too long although it feels better today but its not completely gone

I have fibrocystic breast disease as well. I recently had a large hard lump on my left breast. I went to my gyn and he felt it and wasn’t concerned but did schedule an Ultrasound just to be sure. I am waiting to have that done and am so nervous. The lump has gone down some so that’s encouraging but I have been having shoulder pain and neck pain on both sides. I’m wondering if it’s tension from stress??
Praying and trusting God’s plan. The waiting is hard.

It is actually very common for breast pain to refer to the shoulder or upper back.

You might try giving up all caffeine in the meantime. That can be a pain trigger for many fibrocystic breasts.

Hello again,
I've seen a surgeon last Monday and said I'm dealing with fibrocystic disease since my US result shows multiple small cysts. He said my shoulder neck and armpit (all on my left side) are probably not related. He gave meds for neuropathic pain for one week. My painful shohlder joint seems to go away, but still I have a constant dull aches, feels like there's a heavy thing sitting on my left shoulder. My left arm still aches and I'm scared. He ordered me mammo and I'll do it after my period cause I have just started my cycle. I'm scared at getting mammo though, I heard it is painful for small breasts, is it correct?
I've stopped my caffeine for almost 2 months now, my left breast seems to improve but still has occassional aches. My surgeon did not told me about myofascial
but he ordered an MRI too.
I don't know what to do anymore.

Any history of heart problems?

Hi DJMammo,
No history of heart problems. But I am currently treating my hyperacidity since last December.

Hi Claudia, and welcome to Breastcancer.org!
This thread has been quiet for quite a while. We'd suggest you send the member you'd like to hear from a Private Message, so she receives a notification and she can directly answer you. You can also start your own new thread to get support from other members who can help. The same Not Diagnosed But Worried forum should be fine for that. Please, let us know if you need help with that.
Good luck,

Hi, Claudia, sorry for the late response. If you read through this thread you will see what I do which has helped reduce the symptoms. I still have all of the same symptoms here and there but have had clear mammograms. The radiologist informed me that many women present with pain and no obvious cause. Try to get a diagnostic mammo and it will provide much relief for you to at least have answers. Well wishes and hugs to you. I was in a really dark place until I got answers and it took many months for my doctor to finally agree to a diagnostic mammo. Push for answers!

Hi. My name is Rae. I have been suffering from fibrocystic breast disease for about five years. I have incredibly heavy dense breasts with cysts. Dec 2021 I went for my mammo and ultrasounds. They wanted a biopsy. It was distortion and came back benign, but I don’t know exactly what that means (the distortion part). The situation destroyed me mentally. I have constant pain in my shoulder, scapula, armpit, etc. it never fells like it is gone. My breast feels stressed (if that makes sense). I’m going to a breast specialist next week. I don’t believe I don’t have cancer. I don’t trust all the testing I went through. I’m scared. This disease is really stoping my life. Can anyone give me some hope?

While you definitely should seek some expert advice/opinions, just off the top of my head, from what you've described, I wonder if it isn't a posture issue. Sleep position? Hunched over computer, phone, or laptop, etc? Driving? It might just be more of a physical therapy sort of issue. Here's hoping that you sort it out, you find a solution, and your worries end.

Dear RDoherty79,
We are so sorry that you find yourself here with pain and worry. Here is a link to information about common questions about Breast Imaging. You may find some more information about Distortions there. We are glad that you are seeing a specialist who hopefully can help you make some sense of this and help you to gain some peace of mind. There are many reasons other than cancer for the pain that you describe so we urge you not to jump to conclusions that this is cancer. Please keep us posted on what you learn next week and how we can be a help to you.

thank you. I have posture problems and scoliosis. I am seeing a PT next week as well. I guess….can I trust my benign diagnosis? Did they miss something? Grant it I’ve had the pain for about two years but lately it’s awful.

Dear RDoherty79,
Good to see that you are also seeing a PT next week. Hoping that both appointments offer you some answers and pain relief (especially the PT). Keep us posted.

Hi RDoherty79,
Mine turned out to be posture problem + cysts in my left side. During that time, my right back is also tight but I didnt have any pain in my right breasts.
Now that my left breast is okay, i'm feeling somewhat an exact pain in my right breast an upper right back for a year now.
I'm also scared again and I feel like I had to do breast ultrasound and therapy again for my right side.
Cheers to hoping yours is okay.
