Positive for ATM gene mutation

I am 58 years old and just found out I am positive for the ATM gene mutation. My Mom and all of her sisters had stage 4 breast cancer. My genetic counselor wants me to have a MRI every 6 months and a mammogram every year. A part of me wishes they would go ahead and do surgery but I wasn't given that option. Anyone else going through this?
