exemestane , every other day?

Options

I've started getting headaches again from exemestane about twice a month, but lasting at least 4 days each. It does subside during the day somewhat but is causing havoc on my sleep patterns. Has anyone gone every other day on their AI? I'm trying it for awhile to see if more tolerable. Of course Onc. says no, but then again they don't want to be responsible for anything but what it says in the Book of treatment.

I think I've seen some women do every other day, hope they'll chime in. I wish there was some trial looking at this. I had difficulty with this drug and had to switch back to tamox. I did consider going on every other day, but wasn't brave to do so due to lack of data. However my gut feeling was telling me that the regular dosage was too much for me.

    Hi Eren,

Sorry for not getting back with you. Okay beginning about two weeks ago I started my Exemestane every other day. My one. said no but my headaches(at least 3 times a week & insomnia) indicted I had to do something or just quit altogether. Of course, the media and professionals have us scared out of our wits to go off AI's altogether, so I'll tough it out. As I said before I was on Letrozole ,which I had joint pain, hot flashes & insomnia, that was also with my Prolia shots, which I only took for one year. The Exemestane is the only one of the AI's that are steroidal , so of course I'm probably getting some of the same side effects or less of them. First off ,the headaches are like little pins sticking in your head waking you up in the middle of the night and it doesn't go away until I drag myself out of bed and drink a cup of coffee. Everyone has their own set of side effects as we each have to come to terms what we want to do about them. Hopefully, with more research the oncologists can pinpoint and have each patient on their own specific plan. Right now it seems everyone is thrown into the same treatment plan, although I have never spoke to one person that has my specific diagnosis. keep in touch and keep researching as I will for others that have tried different things. Oh, btw, I don't have too much joint pain with Exemestane, maybe because its steroidal. Who knows. Stay healthy & wise.
