Swelling after IV

I had a breast MRI yesterday and they had to inject an IV for the contrast dye. I hate getting my blood drawn and getting IVs. They always have trouble with my veins and I always bruise up.

It took 2 tries yesterday. They put it in my lower arm rather than where the arm bends and it was somewhat painful as I went through the MRI. Today it is banged up and swollen. I'm a bit worried about the swelling. Is this common?

Sometime when someone inserts an IV the hole they make leaks some of the IV fluids into the tissue spaces surrounding the vein. This can cause some inflammation. It is hot/red as well as swollen? If it is then call up and ask to be seen ASAP, or if really bad and painful go to the ER.
