Good morning. I just joined the group last week, and I'm needing to get some things out of my brain so I can stop thinking about them (as if -LOL). Some background: I am 50 years old, BRCA2+ and have been participating in a high risk screening program for 7 years here in Houston. During a routine MRI two weeks ago, they found 2 masses in right breast. The primary mass is either 1.4 cm or 2.4 cm (MRI and US are conflicting), with a satellite mass that is 1.7 cm. I had a biopsy last Monday and received my initial diagnosis on Wednesday of IDC - likely stage 2-ish - grade 3. My prevention doc is also my MO, and he said during the call that he suspected it was triple negative due to the BRCA status and tumor grade. He said to expect final path results by Friday. Last Friday. 10 days ago. I had my surgical consult yesterday, and the pathology report was still pending. However, the surgeon said that today it's more the standard to perform a lumpectomy for early stage tumors even if BRCA+ and grade 3. I have never heard of this. I have been mentally preparing for a prophylactic mastectomy for several years now, and then boom -- too late for prophylactic. I just assumed I would have a mastectomy, though -- not a lumpectomy. Since I still don't know my hormone receptor status, we couldn't really discuss things with any degree of certainty. So frustrating.

I am having my first consult with my MO today, and I am hoping and praying for the final pathology report so that we can put a plan together. Answers. I need answers.
