ALH with Lumpectomy

Hi everyone.

My story is short but i guess in the end it has a happy ending so far! I had my annual mammogram back on Aug 16th. The tech took more pictures that normal stating that is was because my breast appeared to be very "dense" and the radiologist would most likely want more images. I guess i should of known that something was up then. I got a call back a week later saying that i had 2 spots of micro calcifications on my Left breast. I needed to have a biopsy and needed to meet with the breast surgeon. So I had my appointment with the breast surgeon on 8/28 to discuss having a biopsy on the larger one which she felt would be nothing. I had my biopsy on 9/1. Got a call back stating that it showed ALH and would need to have a biopsy on the other one, which was done on 9/12 which came back benign. I had wire localized lumpectomy (on the first site but they were so close she ended up taking out both clips as well) on 9/28. That came back with no more atypia present but did show a interductal papilloma (which she said would mean surgery if found before). So I am to have a 6 month baseline mammo on the left. Then will go back to annual mammo. She stated that she felt that me going every 6 months would be no more benefical than every year but i guess that is based on what the next 2 mammos show. She also said that if I wanted to go on tammoxifin she would refer me to an oncologist but didn't reccomend it at this time. I am assuming that I am sitll considered high risk to me having the ALH in the first place. Just not sure if I should look into the medication or just be happy with my results and wait and see.

Hi Katsmon4, my story was exactly like yours - but it happened about 20 years ago. I went for 6 month mammograms for a few years then switched to yearly. Every year I was told all clear until 2014. Then ILC was found in the other breast!

Back then I wasn't given the tamoxifen option. I didn't see an oncologist. I wish I had. I really think it's worth your time to see an oncologist and get his/her opinion. ILC is so difficult to spot. I went every year and still it was stage 3 and in my lymph nodes when found. I, too, had dense breasts. ALH And dense breast tissue is a bad combo. Take it very seriously.
