hey everyone!

I had the DIEP flap surgery last December and then I had some scar tissue taken out this past June. I went to the chiropractor for the first time about a month ago and ever since my chest muscle hasn’t felt right (that’s the best way I can describe it) it’s like I can feel the flap sitting there. I’ve only gone 3 times. Yesterday (Friday) My chest on the right felt really uncomfortable and this morning it looks like to me, that my breast shape has changed a bit around the armpit area and I’ve been having sporadic shooting pains go across my chest. I’m wondering if anyone knows if the flap can come undone, or move? My original surgeon moved but he set me up with the doctor that assisted him in surgery but I haven’t met him yet (they’re supposed to give me an appointment time in the mail) would it be a good idea to call and see if there’s anything scheduled?

Thanks

Lindsay, I am sorry you're having pain and worry. I just started at the chiropractor myself last week and I was surprised at how aggressive he was. I find it hard to imagine that the DIEP would come undone, although I can imagine scar tissue breaking up and perhaps creating some shape changes. I really don't have experience with uour concern but hopefully someone will come along who does. I will add that my chiro used active release technique and I felt good afterward.

Lindsey - it almost sounds like you are experiencing nerve pain, When you say it is shooting pain. Hopefully, it has calm down for you. I went to my PS last week and he had to drain a Seroma in my breast. Afterwords, I noticed shooting pain across my right breast and it literally drove me nuts for two days, then it settle down. I’ve had experience with nerve pain before in my abdomen, as well as my arm, and it felt the same way. Almost a burning shooting pain. Advil does not help either. I could not sleep for two nights, and then finally subsided. I don’t know if he hit a nerve draining the fluid out of the breast, or what happened. If it continues for you, I would talk to your regular doctor and consider going to a pain management doctor. I had a Cortizone shot which did calm the nerves down in my arm, and that was two years ago.

    Good luck
