Hair regrowth

Options

Hello,

I apologize if similar questions have been asked, but I am having trouble locating the info. I know so many people offer advice here, so I am turning to all of you.

In 2008, I was dx with breast cancer and did chemo, radiation and reconstruction. I remember being so happy to get rid of my wig, even if my hair was short. Prior to this diagnosis, I had been dx with Follicular Lymphoma and was on a watch-and-wait plan of care. Unfortunately, the Lymphoma changed to a more aggressive form and I needed to be treated. I had 3 months of out-patient chemo followed by a Stem Cell Transplant (June 7th).

My hair is growing back but I am feeling much more pressure/rushed this go around. My son is getting married at the end of May and I really would like my hair to be as long as possible by then. (It is usually just above my shoulders.) I know in the scheme of things, this is minor but I hope people can understand.

I have started taking Biotin already. I am concerned when I read that once you stop some of the topical agents, like Rogaine, your hair will start to fall out. I don't want to use it forever. Has anyone found anything helpful? Has anyone used essential oils?

It is discouraging searching online and I don't know if there is really any help. :(

Thanks so much.

There is another thread where they have a lot of discussion, and pictures. It is in the Chemotherapy- Before, During, and After - Hair, hair, hair.

I have heard that cold pressed caster oil is suppose to help (I have tried this and it is very thick)- I also bought some almond oil because on the bottle it said it encourages hair growth. On the other forum some of the people have used Rogaine. I don't know if it helped. I hope your hair grows for your sons wedding, but if not, enjoy the day.

Hi there, your hair will not fall out when you stop using a topical like rogaineunless you lost it for an underlying issue like pattern baldness or too much DHT in your system, which is not likely. When you use it for hair regrowth after chemo it acts as a stimulant for regrowth by keeping the folical open and accepting of a new hair and it also elongates the cycles of growth which shortens the shedding phase. When you stop the folicals and hair go back to the original growing and shedding phase. There is actually 3 phases but that's the easiest explanation. Good luck with your hair growth:)
