Stromal fibrosis with atypical lymphectasia

I just joined the group. I had a ultrasound guided needle biopsy in August for a mass in my duct. The pathology report came back showing stromal fibrosis with atypical lymphectasia. My doctor says although the cells are non-cancerous, they are abnormal. So there is a level of uncertainty. I am scheduled for a ductal excision in November. I'm trying to stay positive. My mom's family has a history of breast cancer. Does anyone know: Is this a common procedure and what type of recovery should I expect? Am I going to be in a lot of pain afterwards? Thanks.

cameragirl, this link will take you to some good information regarding non-cancerous atypical changes: http://breast-cancer.ca/fibrcyseast/ (including the type that were found in your pathology). Typically, for excisional procedures, most people don't experience a lot of pain, but we are all different. I'd talk to your provider about the amount of tissue expected to be removed. Hopefully, someone else who's had a ductal excision will come along and give you some more specific intell. Good luck!
