I was diagnosed 10 years ago with 2.2 cm IDC, Oncotype 11. Anyone else have a sister with BC?

After my diagnosis, my sister was able to push for and receive a better workup than just the mammogram that said she was fine. Better imaging showed that she had IDC. Because it was identified so early, she was able to have lumpectomy, radiation, and Tamoxifen only. I am very glad that my experience meant earlier identification for my sister. I hope your sister does okay, and I'm sorry she has breast cancer.

Diagnosed 10/2011, IDC with inflammatory features. My sister, 7/2012 with inflammatory BC. No genetic mutations in either of us, nor in our half-sister, who died last month of neuroendocrine BC. I have a very personal hatred for this disease.

Thanks ksusan and sbelizabeth, I believe that the stats for bc are not correct. I believe that bc is more prevelant. I have been married twice, both my mother in laws died of bc. My husband has been married twice, both of his wives had bc. I worked in a two person office, both of us had bc. Geez.

I went through treatment in 2012, then my mom was diagnosed in 2014, and

then my sister in 2015. Mom was Stage 1 - my sister was Stage 3C - thank

God our local hospital did the biopsy only because of family history. She has

    extremely dense breasts.

It was harder watching my sister go through treatment than going through it

myself. But we all made it and are still here to talk about it!

    ALL THE BEST!!

My mother died of BC at 68. My sister was diagnosed at the age of 50.

I was diagnosed with BC three weeks ago. THEN today, my other sister calls to say she was diagnosed with IDC just today. She was wondering if we could get a friends and family discount for our medical costs. Such aninsidious disease.

They say 1 in 8 women get breast cancer in their lives. And yet, 4 of the 4 women in my family of origin have been stricken. No Braca gene. Why couldn't we have beaten some other odds with , say, the lottery.

As Prince would say, Must Be Something In The Water They Drink.

I only have a brother but my mom and her sister both have BC. None of the known genetic mutations for any of us but an obvious link.

To everyone, thanks so much. I feel that the stats are wrong. Simbobby is right. Something in the water. I have been married twice both my mother in laws died of breast cancer. My husband has been married twice both wives had BC. I worked in a two person office, both of us had bc. Geez.

Simbobby - it is highly likely that your family does have a genetic mutation - an undiscovered one most

likely. Were you and your family checked for others besides BRCA?

Hello everyone, I am new. I joined recently because I am floored by the compassion and knowledge of this group and find the emotional support I have received by simply reading here just wonderful for me and I'd like to give some of that support back somehow.

My sis was diagnosed at 37 with stage 1 IDC and LDC. I was diagnosed 2 years later...I am 4 years older than her and nobody in our family had BC. My mammograms over the past few years were ALL normal. Completely normal. I was advised to ask for a breast MRI after my sisters diagnosis. I was given a prescription for one and was told it was a good idea to establish a baseline MRI for the future care. No worries right?? Well as you can see by my diagnosis the MRI found something that my mammograms did not and THAT was was biopsied 4 times. I feel that all my mammograms failed me and feel strongly about the genetic link more than anything. If someone is able to benefit from my story and make this test happen for them, that would make me happy because my MRI may have saved my life.

Thanks to everyone who has answered this thread. I truly believe that BC is much more prevalent than we know. Also, mammograms do not work on 40% of women because of dense breasts. Wish I had known.
