Having a hard time with TN diagnosis

It was hard being told you tested positive for breast cancer but it seems the TN is even harder for me to take. So much of a black cloud over it. People ask me, did they catch it early. Well yes it wasn't on my mammogram in January but it's still not small early stage that they are thinking. I feel perfectly fine, I don't feel "sick" and I don't "look sick".

I know there isn't much I can do but follow my treatment plan. And try to stay positive.

Jennifer - it is such a tough diagnosis. It's bad enough to find out you have BC, but then to find out its aggressive and has less treatment options? I'm also 45. I know it's hard, but really try not to Google - so much info is outdated or simply wrong. Yes, we do have a poorer prognosis, but not a poor one. I repeat this often. On here there are so many women with TN who are years out and doing fine. It does get easier when treatment starts. I was so afraid and sad in the beginning that I couldn't eat, I was always shaking and wondering if my kids would be ok without me. Now I really try to enjoy the moment and be positive. Keep coming back here for advice, support and true understanding

Being told I was TN seemed like another huge blow to me, too. But my oncologist explained that it's not worse, just different. The good news is that it typically responds well to chemo and recurrence rates are lower after five years. I've also found and talked to several TNBC survivors that are 5+ years out. They give me hope.

    Oh, and I'm also 45.

there’s quite a few 40 yo’s on here with TNBC! I’m 47. Everything Jamorcar said is right but some days it’s hard to block out the scariness of TN. At first, when I met with a BS right after diagnosis, he said the good news is that your type of BC tends to respond well to chemo. I was so relieved and then my husband starting reading about it and mybubble burst.

Hi Jennifer - breast cancer sucks period (triple negative or not!). I am almost 6.5 years out from my diagnosis and I really did not think I would make year 3. But here I am! My friend was diagnosed stage 2 TNBC cancer one month after me and she is fine also!

Get through treatment and try not to be to scared about the present and the future. I did not think I would make it but I did. You will too! All of you ladies will I am sure!
