Carboplatin and Gemzar - How long did it work for you?

Hi all,

I recently started Carboplatin and Gemzar after my last treatment Tykerb and Xeloda only worked for a very short time and cancer progressed fast.

I wanted to find out how long people have been on Carboplatin and Gemzar before progression?

I had it for five months five cycles. The tumor marker went from triple digit to half way in the black. It was the only met in the supra cervical node after three years of treatment. So my oncologist decided it was best to remove it surgically. Just had surgery and am on faslodex. Looking forward to chemo free days for a looong loooong time

How have you tolerated carboplatin plus gemzar? I did not have the same treatment. I did gemzar alone for 10 months and thought it was pretty manageable. Kept on working full time. I had some other treatments in between and just started taxotere with carboplatin yesterday. I wonder how the doctors decide which combos to try? I hope you do well on this combo and that you tolerate the side effects well! I hope it is very effective for you for a very long time!

Hi, I was on carbo/gemzar 10 mths ago. As far as side effects go I didn't feel bad but it was very hard on my blood counts. After 3-4 cycles I had a scan and things looked good so my onc discontinued treatment. I am getting ready to start it again on Wednesday (unfortunately). He said it was effective before so we'll go that route again. Hoping my body will tolerate it.
