how quickly do you get biopsy results

I had a core biopsy this past Tuesday afternoon and they told me they would call today with the results. I just called since I didn't hear from them and they said the results didn't come back yet, and I shoud call again tomorrow if I don't hear from them in them first thing in the morning Is this a bad sign? I'm panicked.

No it's not a bad sign. It just means the pathology lab is busy

I waited 8 days for results, but was told I would get a call in 3 days. I worried too but even with the wait the results were benign. Try not to worry, hope you get good results!

Melissa and Grammy are right: it is NOT a bad sign. It takes some time to prepare the sample: First they have to 'dehydrate' the tissue (get some of the water out), because they have to encase the tissue in something hard (like wax or plastic) so they can cut it into very thin slices (so the pathologist can see through it to look at it under the microscope.)

I had to wait 2 weeks for my results, and I had to call them for the results. The longest I've seen on the boards here is one person had to wait over a month because they sent her sample to another hospital to get a 2nd opinion, and forgot to tell the patient about that. She ended up NOT having invasive breast cancer. Sometimes they run out of a needed reagent, or stain, or someone called in sick or is on vacation.

Usually its fairly easy to tell invasive cancer from non-invasive, but at other times it takes more expertise to read the slide.

You do NOT want them to get the pathology wrong: it is the pathologist who diagnoses almost all breast cancer.

I know its awful to wait. Hang in there! Hoping everything is totally normal.

Same boat as you, biopsy Tuesday, they told me today that they'd hopefully know tomorrow.

The waiting is absolutely the worst part right now.
