Nerve pain that won't dissipitate

I've had a lumpectomy back in 2011 and a bilateral mastectomy with nipple sparring in 2012. Since then I've had my implant reconstruction and revisions done numerous times. In total I've had about 8 surgeries (including scar revision, reconstruction and undergone tissue expanders twice, scar revision, etc.) between 2011-2017.

My recent surgery was earlier this year in January but only for scar revision. I've started to notice some nerve pain recently over the summer but nothing super painful that a quick massage and/or pressure wouldn't solve. However, this past few weeks I've noticed that the pain is getting worse. It won't dissipitate, and it won't even radiate and slowly go away either. It's just a sharp massive pain like I just got stabbed. It's to a point that I don't want to lift my arms but it seems impossible since it's the upper part of my right chest. Mind you, I am right handed also. Normally I'm not concerned when the pain is where my scars are but it's not. I'm pretty positive my pain could be from tissue forming or surrounding a major nerve and it's causing the pain.

I haven't gone to the oncologist yet and I'm not sure if I should be asking them or plastic surgeons. I've been formally discharged from the clinic and it would be a pain to get another referral just to see my doctor.

I just want to know has anyone had this similar problem? Did anyone do anything to help with the with pain?

Hi there. Sounds like you have neuropathy from all the surgeries. You might need to see either a neurologist or pain management specialist. There are specific meds for nerve pain. Good luck and keep us posted..

It’s been very troubling for me seeing how some of these nerve pains won’t dissipate quickly but also because once in a while I get pain in my sternum.

I have the same pain, only mine radiates around to my back on both sides (right and left). My plastic surgeon says that is is nerve damage (neuropathy) from the surgeries. It does feel like a stabbing pain. There are medications that you can take to help with this type of pain. I was originally on gabapentin for nearly 3 years before I was switched to Lyrica.

Check with your plastic surgeon. This is a common occurrence after multiple surgeries.
