Hearing about others having cancer

Options

I started a new job in June and I'm still getting to know people. Only 2 people at work know I had cancer and I am still not sure that I shouls have told them. So with that said I'm a newbie!

Yesterday in the lunch room I overheard some people talking about a woman having surgery recently. Using words like "got it all", chemo for preventing....etc.

It hit me like a ton of bricks. I wanted to chime in and ask about it but I didn't. It waa almost a reflex actually. It felt so odd sitting there hearing them and wondering who it was.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this. It brought up alot of feelings and thoughts for me. I feel so closed off from people now because of having had cancer. Its this huge part of my experience and yet I don't feel comfortable talking about it. Also just hearing people talking about someone they know going thru this crap and thinking y'all really have no clue.

I'm rambling a little but it helps me to process.thx

So if you find out who this person is and you feel strong enough to give support you could casually mention your own dance with cancer.  But unless you really feel up to it, I think it would be better not to say anything.
