On Tuesday there was a suspicious find in the left breast during screening mammogram. On Thursday, had diagnostic mammograms and ultrasounds which confirmed findings. 5-6mm spiculated mass. Biopsy scheduled for Tuesday... I'm 43 with no family history and scared/nervous. Any advice?

      Quinian,

Sorry you find yourself in this situation, it's a scary process but the community here is extremely supportive.

What kind of biopsy are you having? I would imagine it will be ultrasound guided as it visible with this modality. The procedure is pretty straight forward, the dr will give you a local anesthetic and then proceed with the biopsy. It really should not be too painful (more like a little burning followed by pressure) but you can develop some gnarly bruising afterwards.

Hope everything goes well, and keep us posted!

Thanks Mystic88. Yes, it will be a us guided fine needle biopsy. Anyone know how long results usually take? The team I have encountered thus far have been very quick with responses and results. I sat with the MD after the diagnosis mammo and us and she showed me everything and exlpained what we were looking at. She has prepared me that this mught be yucky, but I want the rsults of the biopsy so that I can either stop worrying or gameplan accordingly.

For me results took about 3 days. I think 2-5 is typical.

      Hope you get good news!

it came back as invasive ductal carcinoma and ductal carcinoma in situ...so next step is an appointment with the breast surgeon on Monday.

I'm sorry Quinian! Do you have a good support system at home? The ladies here are just fantastic, but it does help to have someone to help you through appointments. Sending big hugs!

I have a fantastic support system at home and understand that for cancer I really have the best case scenario, so I am trying to stay positive and just take one day at a time. The hardest part was telling the kids, but we got through that! Thanks all, you all have been so kind,
