I start AC>T this Thursday. Has anyone NOT experienced hair loss with AC?

if your not doing dose dense meaning every 2 weeks you may be able to save your hair with cold capping. I looked into it but for me the risk of hair loss was just too great to spend the money.

    Best wishes for you

I hate to say it, but chemo works by attacking fast growing/replicating cells (like your hair and nails). I've never heard of anyone *not* losing their hair (except for folks who cold-capped, and they still lose some hair).

I did DD AC+T. Lost it all by day 17.

I had my hair clipped super short, expecting to lose it all during AC, but I never did. I lost most of it, and most of my lashes and brows. I think it's because I have the slowest growing hair of anyone I know. Only need a haircut every 4 to 6 months. Since chemo only targets fast growing cells, my hair was safe!

I only had Taxol and Herceptin --I held onto most of my hair until almost the 9th treatment; then it started to shed heavily until 2 months post chemo when I gave up and got a cute pixie cut. I had a beautiful (and expensive) wig which I only wore for two weeks when my hair was at it's most wispy before I had it cut. If I ever have to go thru this again, I would just wear head covers and wait it out; hair grows back pretty fast and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, even tho it was the part of treatment I dreaded the most.

I've talked to one lot of cancer patients and never heard of anyone not losing most hair from AC.

Usually begins Day 12 to 17 after first treatment, and if no one has shared this with you, there is a

weird achy pain that goes with it.  I had to keep massaging my scalp.

I've seen women who have had Taxol only keep a good amount of hair.

For me, it was worse thinking about the hair loss than the actual process of losing my hair.  The night

I had my head shaved, I felt a freedom that all that worry about it was over.  For me, the hair loss

process was important to my healing.

I'm almost 6 years out from diagnosis.  My "new hair" is still better than my old hair.  My sister's "new hair"

is also better than her old hair.  And I can assure you of one thing - you will never have a bad hair day

again after your hair comes back!

Sending a hug and best wishes!!

My hair started coming out on day 15 of my first FEC cycle. My scalp was so sore that I had my head shaved the next day - I don't understand how other women are able to wash their hair once some of it starts falling out. I couldn't even touch my scalp! I've been managing with hats and scarves and so far I'm content with that. I've gotten my scarves from a website that's frequently linked in this forum, although each time I go to that website, stuff keeps hopping into my shopping cart. It's diabolical.

ladies thank you so much for sharing that it can hurt when the hair loss starts. Mine started yesterday and I thought I just had really bad luck as my scalp really hurts. It's nice to know that the gods are not truly against me .. Lol
