Internal scar tissue after Savi radiation

Options

I had a Savi implant in 2012. I was the first patient who had it performed at OSF St. Francis In Peoria, IL. A factory rep directed the surgeon during the implant. The Savi caught on breast  tissue, and the pain was severe. Five years later, I still have a hard lump where the Savi was. I had a biopsy in May which was benign, but I have to go for another diagnostic mammogram in November. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I wonder if there is an inordinate amount of scar tissue because of the problems with the insertion. I also worry that November's mammogram is going to reveal something else. My diagnosis was Stage 1 Grade 1 IDC, no lymph node involvement, seven millimeter tumor.

Hi mamakuch, and welcome to Breastcancer.org. We're glad you've found our community!

Hope you get responses from other members who can help soon. Until then, there are several threads here on the boards where you can connect with others who have been talking about SAVI radiation in the boards. If you go to the Search function in the blue menu and type in "savi" (without the quotes) as your search term, you'll see every time the word is mentioned in a post, and can then check out the thread and post your questions there if you want. Here are some of those topics:

Post brachytherapy radiation and surgery effects

    Savi radiation treatment

    Hope this helps!

    Best wishes,

    From the Mods
