Solicitation by Women's Cancer (don't think they're legit)
Not sure where to place this, but have any of you ever had calls from Women's Cancer? (I think that's the entire name).
I've unfortunately answered their calls twice thinking if was one of my treatments centers. They fool you into thinking that they know you - "Hello XXX, you're a hard woman to get a hold of." Then they launch into their pitch. The first time was right after my diagnosis, so I was still pretty upset, and I let them know that at the moment, I couldn't deal with it because of my recent diagnosis. I won't go into her response, but I was close to tears when I hung up. She acted like it didn't matter, and I had a duty. Today, they managed to get me again. They wouldn't pause in their pitch, so I hung up. I've realized that no legitimate organization would treat a woman this way.
There's lots of complaints about calls from them, but I can't find anything about them which makes me think scam. Still, I hate how upset I let myself get at their calls. Did block that particular number for next time.
Thank you for letting me vent.

These folks, or someone else? http://www.foundationforwomenscancer.org/
Sorry they hassled you. When I get cancer solicitations by phone (which I never got before my treatment, so I know someone sold a list), I ask them to send me some money.

Love your response!
I don't think it's the same organization. Foundation... is located in Chicago, and this one showed a MD phone number. And I see no bad review for the one you mentioned.
-
You can check its legitimacy by seeing if it's listed on Guidestar or Charity Navigator.

Yes, I've received those solicitation calls from some 'Women's cancer' group. I think they are a scam too. I just hang up. You can't rely on the phone # shown by the caller-id anymore -- scammers often show fake numbers that appear to be local or in your state.

I've had a few of those calls. When I tell them I'm one of the people who they are trying to "raise" money for, they keep to their script and continue to ask me to donate. I just hang up.
-
I've gotten those calls, some grandmotherly type trying to chat me up about how hard I am to get ahold of.
I tell them I gave in the OR (operating room) and please take me off your call list. Annoying, isn't it?
Love the response of please send ME some money.
-
Yeah, I've gotten them, too. It took me a couple of times ro realise that it's a recording. And a total and complete scam. Do not give these people money. It all goes into the "founder's" pockets. There are reputable organizations to donate to. This is not one of them.

Yep, I've used the "send me money" line on all kinds of questionable (I've never heard of them) charities. For example, they call and say they're supporting disabled veterans. I say "wonderful! How can my father apply for support?"
Legitimate organizations will give you information about applying for support, etc. The fly-by-night, just hang up. Couldn't suit me better!

How do they even get our names? I only started getting those calls after I was diagnosed. I tell anybody asking for money to send me something through the mail, and if they don't have my address I don't give it.
-
I'm sure they're sold lists. I think I got calls from these people before my diagnosis, but ignored them. I only fell for it because of the caller ID name being so similar to my treatment facility.
Definitely going to ask them to send me money if I happen to make the same mistake & answer the call. (Thank you ksusan!!!)

I have gotten calls from them. I am from md and it comes up on my caller id as a md area code. Usually I don't answer but one time i did and told them i was in treatment forever and told them to take me off their list. They said " I am so sorry and we will remove your name from the list" speech. The calls stopped for awhile but they returned a few weeks later. Just don't answer there calls anymore. case closed.
