Okay so I am 22 years old, and I found a lump in my left breast and got it checked out by a doctor. When I did the ultrasound the results came back with 2 lumps in my left breast. So i got really worried. One of them is a complex cyst, and the other was hypoechoic nodule. My doctor said that it is most likely a benign cysts , and to come back in 4 months for another check up. I also immediately stopped using my birth control pill. Should I be worried about this 4 month wait? Because I am currently freaking out!

Ashley, Here is the diagnostic process:

So it is pretty common for women (especially young women) to get cysts, which are usually pretty easy to "see" using an US. When there is more than a 2% chance of something being breast cancer, they typically biopsy it. When there is less than a 2% chance, they wait (3 or 4 or 6 months) to then reassess and make sure it is stable. Please do make sure you go back to your 4 month re-check, but don't worry overly much about worst case scenarios.

Notice that you're in the age group that spans 15 years worth of women and only represents 1.8% of all breast cancer diagnoses in the US. Good luck for b9 results!

Birth control pills can actually help prevent cysts by regulating your menstrual cycle.

I actually read somewhere that birth control pills could lead to breast cancer, so that's why I stopped them. My doctor also said that if the lumps grew bigger that they were going to stop me from using the pills anyway, so that confirmed everything I needed to know to stop using them!

Thank you so much this really helped! I am going to stop googling because that is only making me feel worse about this.
