I just got a call from my sister telling me my 83 YO Mom found out she has BC for the 2nd time, after 23 yrs of being DX'd the first time. I don't know much right now. She has an Onc appt next Friday. She lives in AZ, me in TX. I am angry, sad and still trying to process. She said she found a lump in her BC breast-not sure when.. Mammo and U/S detected nothing. They told her not to worry and if she wanted a biopsy that was fine. I guess it has gone thru her skin and the dermatologist did the BX. So, here we are, again. I tried to re-assure her and tell her that the older we are, usually the less aggressive it is. My concern is that it has gone through to her skin....does that mean it has metastasized? She had a LX and Rads 23 yrs ago. No chemo or HT at that time. I guess that means no Rads this time. Same breast. Both me and my half-sister were DX'd also. My sister at 27 and me at 58, What a nightmare. I want to be there for her and feel so helpless right now. I HATE cancer!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. And sorry for you as her daughter. I hate cancer, too. Especially when it picks on the same people over and over again.

The fact that it took 23 years to return seems to be a good sign. And just because it came through the skin doesn't mean it had metastasized. It was probably just close to the skin surface to begin with.

I'll be thinking of you and your mom ...

NVB, Thank you for the note of encouragement. I am still trying to wrap my head around it. I just want to be there for her and am 1000 miles away...

    Bless you:)
