Hello

I had a mastectomie in may 2016. After radtiation I started working halftime: 2,5 days per week. Since one month I'm working 4 days a week again like I used to before. I work with a computer all day and my arm gets so tired. Sometimes I put my mouse on the left side, but then I get cramps in my shoulder.

Anyone else with with the same complaints? And a good tip maybe?

Do you have lymphedema and/or use compression for that arm?

When I went back to work before retirement, my computer use was intermittent, not constant, so I was able to move around. Hand washing was my main problem due to wearing the glove or gauntlet all the time.

Be sure to stay well hydrated by drinking lots of water - the many bathroom breaks required will be sure to get you up and shift position! Elevate whenever you can, even if it looks odd to others. Fist pumps might help too (stretch fingers apart then squeeze together: should stimulate circulation) Hopefully more people will come along with additional ideas.

I'm wondering if a vertical mouse would make any difference, perhaps changing between the two during the day.

If your desk chair is adjustable height, try raising it higher. I don't work using a computer but I do a fair bit of fly tieing and leather carving and to be comfortable I have to be 'higher'. This allows for arm/hand to be bit lower. Also you might try changing the height of the chair (most office chairs I've had have a lever that makes them easy to change height) several times a day. Just thought about something I've seen in TV commercials that might be an option. They are a sort of desk top that sits on the desk that can be raised so 'you' can stand for change of position.

Don't know if any of my 'ideas' might help - just my 'thoughts'.

A variety desk or other sit/stand option is helpful. I work on a computer 8 to 10 hours a day and how to take a lot of breaks or my arm swells up.

    Moderation is key!
